Which UK universities offer apprenticeships?

You’re tired of education, you’re ready for the real world and some hands-on experience. You want to get your hands dirty and throw your all into your chosen career and sitting in a lecture hall or in break-out groups just isn’t going to give you the stimulation you need to reach your ambitious goals.

Maybe you’ve had your heart set on a certain career goal for as long as you can remember, you are eager and itching to really get stuck in with hands-on experience but the career you want requires much more experience than a college-level apprenticeship yet insists on a degree qualification.

Or are you the parent of a teenager who is incredibly headstrong and knows their career path like the back of their hand, yet the cost of university seems questionable when it doesn’t always provide real-life experience…

When it comes to applying to university it can be overwhelming trying to find the best course and the right university. If you are in need of a university consultant in the UK, contact us today.

What can you do?

There are universities in the UK which offer apprenticeships. More commonly known qualifications like this are regular college-level apprenticeships and the newly introduced T Levels.

On the other hand, if you’re ready to move on to the next level of study and gain real-life experience, here is the information you need.

An apprenticeship at the degree level is an outstanding qualification. Degree apprenticeship candidates work towards a Bachelors or a Master’s Degree, and receive 3 – 6 years of experience in a professional environment that suits their career choice. All apprentices earn a salary while they learn, and they do not pay university tuition fees as the costs are covered by the government and the apprenticeship employer.

Some other things to take into consideration are students need to be able to balance working and studying at the same time, they won’t qualify for any student loans, and often the degree apprentice won’t get the traditional “university experience”.

The grades needed for each vacancy will differ and it is important to do your research to ensure you’re on the right track before applying. However, employers will look for more than just a student’s grades, they will be looking for students with other skills like communication, leadership, teamwork, and passion.

The degree is assessed by completing an assessment at the end of the apprenticeship which is called an “end-point assessment”. This assessment tests your ability to do the job as well as your academic learning. You may also receive assignments throughout your course depending on the subject and university.
