Catherine Stoker

catherine-stokerExpert on independent school choices, boarding issues and dilemmas, international parent support, guardianship and holiday course sporting and academic programmes.

Catherine was educated at independent school from age 3 to 18, as a boarder from age 11 to 18. She then went on to gain a BA honours degree with Qualified Teacher Status from Warwick University.

After qualifying, she taught physical education and mathematics at 5 different independent schools over a period of 13 years, the first 7 of these as a residential housemistress in boarding schools, the latter 6 in Head of Department roles.

After moving to the Buckinghamshire area in 2001, Catherine taught at Henry Floyd Grammar School in Aylesbury and Berkhamsted School, as well as coaching lacrosse, tennis and netball at Stowe School. During her time in the teaching profession, Catherine had the pleasure of offering support and advice to thousands of children and their parents, enjoying many success stories, as well as guiding them through the many challenges that education can bring.

Following a successful teaching career, Catherine spent 7 years as a consultant, Director and latterly as Managing Director of  a large education consultancy in London, during which time, she gained a great deal of experience advising both UK-based and international clients worldwide on independent and boarding school choices, as well as offering on-going care and support with a diverse range of education related choices and issues that arise throughout the child’s education in the UK, as part of the guardianship service.

Through many years spent supporting parents with their school choice decisions and offering guidance in solving their education related issues, Catherine became committed to the concept of offering cost-effective, independent education consultancy services to UK-based, Expat and international parents.

In 2011 she turned her back on the London commute and founded The Independent Education Consultants from her home in Buckinghamshire. Since founding the business she has gathered a team of home-based education consultant experts who collectively have huge breadth of knowledge and experience across the whole education sector. From offering advice on choosing the right day or boarding school, advice for Expat families relocating back to the Home Counties, supporting dyslexia and other mild learning difficulties, to making an application to change school at sixth form or choose and apply to the right course at the right UK University through UCAS, the team can support parents whatever their query or dilemma. Catherine writes a regular blog which has a following of parents and schools both in the UK and Worldwide.
